Well let me tell you that my glamorous life starts at 3:00AM every morning! In fact, right now it’s 3:46AM and I’m working on this blog. Why? You may ask. Story goes like this; my son is on his way to finish his bachelors in Biology at FIU with the intention of becoming a physician in a few years from now.
He started waking up at 3AM because the house was calm and there was no noise and distractions for him to study. He started telling me how awesome it was, so I decided to try it and he was totally right! I can put a lot of work at that time before emails and calls start to get in.
Sometimes people look at a successful business owner and they think how lucky they are, but they overlook all the sacrifices and troubles that person went through to get there, and to be sincere, I believe that while everybody can be successful, not everybody is willing to sacrifice their sleep, social life and all the other things you need to sacrifice to be a successful entrepreneur.
I see people all the time talking about their dreams, but when you asked them what are they doing to achieve those dreams, the answer is always the same, I don’t have the money, I don’t know how to, and so on…
I heard an entrepreneur said some time ago “Don’t envy my glory if you don’t know my story” and he is right. All that success has a story of tears and sacrifices behind it. A lot of the time you need to face failure alone, and become your own psychologist and give therapy to yourself, tap yourself in the back and keep moving on.
If you dream about opening a business, here is some advice that I have learned along the way:
- Be prepared to work hard – you need to work anyway, and probably you will work hard for someone else’s dream, so why not work for you?
- Learn everything related to your business – in the beginning you need to become an expert on a lot of things, marketing, accounting, logistics, packaging, delivery, design, etc…
- You’ll need to be able to re-route like a GPS – when you own a business, you can’t be inflexible, you need to learn how to change quickly with the economy and trends.
- You need a Website – don’t think you can avoid having a Website, customer today are smart shoppers, they compare between companies before they make a purchase. It’s true that having a Website won’t make sure you’ll have the customer, but not having one will take you out of the equation.
